New Wingspan Quarterly Blogring!

Writers... readers... supporters... please join the WQ blogring and help spread the word about this new literary magazine. Our goal is to get the work of talented writers out there into the public and connect it with real readers. The best way to do that is to promote that work, and that requires spreading the word as far as possible!

Go here to join.

Remember to read the Summer issue and submit your work for the Autumn issue by August 15!

What Inspires You?

What inspires a writer? Love drives us to embrace and to injure; hate is as much a creative as a destructive impulse for an author. Whether we seek justice, truth, God, romance, freedom, the past, or our future, it seems that we are all looking for something. Open these pages, and perhaps you will find what you seek....

We at WQ are happy to announce that the Summer 2006 issue of Wingspan Quarterly has been released - slightly behind schedule, but none the worse for wear. In fact, at the risk of hurting our first child's feelings, we feel that the quality of this issue surpasses that of the spring issue! Weighing in at 145 pages - about 50% larger than the Spring issue - the Summer issue includes the work of seventeen talented authors.

The online edition is viewable at www.wingspanquarterly.com, and we hope that you will send readers our way so that they can share in the enjoyment we had while reading your work. We also hope that you will support Wingspan Quarterly and the literary arts by purchasing a print edition at www.lulu.com/wingspan. The print edition is a beautifully produced paperback, designed in a unique landscape format, featuring original cover art. It makes a lovely addition to your bookshelf or coffee table, and is a great gift for those who love you and your work! (Please forgive us for plugging the print edition - not only do the proceeds help make the continued operation of WQ possible, but we are inordinately proud of its physical incarnation.) You can also support WQ by purchasing merchandise found on our website.

Promotional posters and web buttons are available upon request. Email wingspanquarterly@gmail.com for more information.

The submission deadline for the Autumn issue is August 15. Please read our submission guidelines on the website and become a part of the Wingspan experience!

How High Are You Willing to Fly?

It is with great pride that I announce the release of the inaugural issue of Wingspan Quarterly, an entirely new kind of literary magazine.

Forget literary eliltes who would tell us that the only worthwhile writing is esoteric and hard to read! WQ believes that good writing is meant to be read, is a communication between author and audience, and that the best literature is the kind that you love reading most.

Support the literary arts by purchasing a copy of our inaugural issue at
www.lulu.com/wingspan . You won't be disappointed by the wide variety of excellent and evocative writing. These pieces whisk you away to a dark northbound highway, sneak you into a mental institution, and transport you to a fascinating Orwellian alternative future. They will surprise you, tickle you, frighten you, and remind you why you love to write and read. The royalty from sales goes directly towards funding the next issue of WQ and helps build a budget for contributor payment.

Submit your work to Wingspan Quarterly for consideration in upcoming issues. Send an email to
wingspanquarterly@gmail.com with up to three fiction/nonfiction pieces (3,000 word max) and/or six poems (50 lines max) attached as .rtf, .doc, or .pdf filies. Include a brief (100 words or fewer) third-person author bio. WQ accepts works in any genre or style with the exception of hate literature, pornography, and fan fiction. (Well-written erotica will be considered.) While we are particularly interested in pieces that deal with themes of flight and/or travel, we are delighted to receive submissions of quality ghost stories, horror, science fiction/fantasy, mystery, etc.. No anonoymous or simultaneous submissions or previously-published work, please.

Many thanks to everyone who submitted to the Winter Issue of Wingspan Quarterly! We received wonderful submissions from fifteen states, two continents, and three countries, and are excited to sit down with them and highlight the best of the best for our inaugural issue. We are currently accepting submissions for our Spring Issue. Submissions and questions may be directed to wingspanquarterly@gmail.com. If you would like to help Wingspan expand its contributor base by distributing posters at your local school, library, coffee shop, or bookstore, please send us an email and we will send you a PDF file.
